Blair & Nate met in 2005 when they were in 7th grade. Six years later, after becoming friends in their senior year of high school, they had their first date to Lincoln Park Zoo. By September 2018, they married with a modern, simple & fun celebration.
We had planned for the first look and pre-ceremony pics to be taken on the roof of the The Ivy Hotel. That morning, however, the sky opened & the rain came pouring down. Eventually, the rain stopped, but the roof was saturated and there were still several puddles, making the roof unusable.
Just as we were making plans for an indoor first-look shoot, the sun came out & the temperature rose. It was as if God heard the disappoint in our hearts & immediately moved on our behalf. The end result…a nearly dry roof and memorable pre-ceremony pics. Take a look…
The simplicity of the ceremony decor created an elegant backdrop to a touching & personal ceremony.
Of course, Dad had a to offer a few final words before giving his daughter away. LOL
The details of the reception were striking, especially when posed against the navy linens that were added to the reception space by Jewell Events Catering.
More wedding details can be seen on Aisle Society, the wedding industry’s largest influencer network, where the wedding was was featured.
Oh…I forgot to tell you…after the first look pics on the roof, we headed to the lobby of the hotel to take the 2 minute walk over to the ceremony venue.
On our way down, the elevator stopped!! Apparently the 12 of us exceeded the weight capacity. 😱
So here we are – the wedding planner, the hair stylist, & 6 of the groomsmen (along with 4 other hotel guests) STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR!! Fortunately it only took about 10 minutes for us to get free….but it sure made for good lobby laughter when we finally got there!!
Blair & Nate, thank you for the privilege of being a part of this chapter of your love story. May you be blessed with a lifetime of joy, laughter and happiness!! Much love to you both!

Now that I’ve finally started this blog, I get to share some of our amazing weddings.
Ciara first contacted us about planning her wedding in January 2018. The months we spent with her walking through the planning process were so much fun! In fact, some of our planning meetings turned into a watch party for The Voice because we were both fans of the show that season.
This May 2019 wedding was filled with a light & airy color palette, a beautiful & loving family, great friends, and a phenomenal DJ. Here’s the visual story of Ciara & Thomas’ wedding day!
The bride & all her ladies were stunning & happily glowing as they got ready at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The ceremony took place at the gazebo at the Odyssey Country Club.
The handsome groom & groomsmen looked sharp in their grey suits as they posed for pre-ceremony pics on the Odyssey balcony.
Tears flowed all day, but Thomas managed to keep it together as his bride made her entrance.
The same can’t be same can’t be said for Ciara though. She was a bucket of tears as she walked toward the love of her life.
The light & airy reception had pops of lavender, lilac & white hydrangea and roses in the centerpieces created by the florist, appropriately named Lavender Fields Flowers & Decor.
The brides bouquet was also a beauty in the same color palette.
…as was the cake!
The other wedding details were equally as lovely
One of the many joys of my role as their wedding planner was to help Thomas fulfill he desire to do something special for his wife during their wedding reception. We decided that we would surprise her with a live saxophone player during their first dance; the sax is her favorite instrument!! I was able to contact Gerald Holden, a local sax player, and work with him to customize the first dance track so that he would be featured.
You see, Ciara had already picked out the perfect song for their dance & we had to let her have it. So we created a custom track with the vocalist singing the first verse & chorus (as she expected). Then for verse 2, rather than lyrics by the singer, it was sax player! Needless to say, the water works started again…..
It was a beautiful moment!
After dinner, DJ D Jones got the party going & the dance floor stayed full!
I have to say, this was a truly wonderful day celebrating the love of Ciara & Thomas. Their devotion to one another & their daughter was evident in every detail, every speech, every photograph.
Thank you Ciara & Thomas for allowing the SouthWind Events team to be a part of your special day. We were honored to serve you & walk this journey with you!
